Meta Tag Myth – Do I Need Them ?

It never ceases to amaze me how many search engine optimization services tell their clients they do not need meta tags, because the major search engines no longer use them. It is a major mistake to advise their clients that they do not need meta tags. If your not familure with meta tags, they are made up of a few lines of text located in the header of every web page. They include the title, a description and keywords for your page. There are other meta tags, but those are the most important. Even though the major search engines no longer use data from the tags to determine the page rank, there are thousands of smaller search engines and free business directories like LinksToHouston.Com that still use the meta tag information. If you only want to be listed on Google, then you do not need meta tags, However you will be cheating youself or your clients out of millions of hits from smaller search engines and directories all over the internet. I know because I maintain LinksToHouston.Com a Houston business directory that offers free business listings and free advertising to the Houston, Texas area. When our spider crawls a website and returns with no meta tag data, we normally skip over that site because we do not know what information to use for the title or description. So next time someone tells you meta tags are no longer needed, just remember they are talking about a few major search engines and not the thousands of smaller search engines and directories on the web.

  6. Even if you don’t have much designing experience, Unbounce
has some templates that can be used as a jumping point and then tweaked for
fitting your style. For example, if you run a website that sells bonsai
trees, you’d probably include meta keywords like “online bonsai tree store, bonsai tree care, bonsai trees, topiary, hobbies, gardening”.

Google, for instance, appears to be like for the most pertinent key
phrases with the most current content.
